Congratulations to Brooke Tinomoana who, on Wednesday night last week, was awarded a very prestigious first place art award in the Christchurch Year 13 Windsor Secondary Schools Art Competition.

The award was judged by Nathan Pohio, a Conceptual Artist and Assistant Curator at the Christchurch Art Gallery and Aaron Kreisler, the Head of the Fine Arts Department University of Canterbury. They praised Brooke for her beautiful photographic entry and subject matter, striking composition and good choice of camera lens. The work was based on Brooke's family home on the West Coast and reflects her Cook Islands and Maori ethnicity.

The award comes with a considerable amount of prize money and sponsorship for both student and school. The competition marks the beginning of an encouraging and supportive event for the arts at secondary level in the South Island. The exhibition will run until Sept 20th at the Windsor Gallery, 386 St Asaph Street.
